Over 100 years of the Pförtnerhaus
Some houses have an address; ours has a biography. The Pförtnerhaus has stood at Hardstrasse 43 for over a hundred years, and in that time it has collected more stories than we have croffle recipes.

A house with a purpose
A «Pförtnerhaus» is a gatekeeper's house, the place where you arrive, are welcomed, pause for a moment. That's exactly the role the house plays again today, except nobody guards a gate any more. The welcoming part remains, every day.

Lovingly renovated, not ironed flat
When we took over the house, one thing was clear: we'd renovate it, but we wouldn't iron it flat. The old beams, the spiral staircase, the high ceilings in the Gallery Room, all of it stays visible. The result is a place where a century of history and a croffle iron get along surprisingly well. Homely meets innovative, that's not a coincidence, that's the concept.

From Pförtnerhaus to Pförti
The Pförtnerhaus became the «Pförti», that's what the neighbourhood calls it, and we've long called it that ourselves. Today the house is café bar, event venue and neighbourhood hub in one: Z'Morge in the morning, coffee and croffles by day, apéro in the evening, workshops and celebrations in between. A century-old house that learns something new every day.
La vie en rose, for over a centuryThe people behind it
Meet the people behind the house on our team page. And if you want to know what happens inside today: the menu is the best history lesson.
